The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Hon Ambassador Khamis Kagasheki hosted a luncheon for Members of the Diplomatic Corps with the purpose of presenting Tanzania’s intention to vie for a seat to the World Heritage Committee. The election for a seat to the World Heritage Committee is scheduled to take place during the General Assembly of State Parties to the World Heritage Convention to be held from 19 – 21 November, 2013 in Paris.

Addressing the delegates, Minister Kagasheki said that Tanzania has demonstrated a high level of commitment to conservation of its natural resources and has dedicated more than 42,000sq.kms of its land to conservation. It is worth mentioning that Tanzania is one of the African Countries with most sites inscribed on the World Heritage List.
Furthermore, the Minister said that Tanzania’s candidature is supported and was endorsed by the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa in May, 2013. Hon Kagasheki therefore reached out an appeal to Members of the Diplomatic Corp and their countries to not only support and vote for Tanzania’s candidature but also requested them to seek support of other European, Arab and South American Regions.
The Representative of the Members of the Diplomatic Corp, Dr Ishaya Samaila Majambu who is also the Nigerian High Commissioner to Tanzania expressed their gratitude for the kind gesture given them by the Ministry. Dr Ishaya assured the Minister that the delegates will convey Tanzania’s request to their respective countries and that they are sure the request will be well accepted. He concluded by wishing Tanzania a successful candidature.
