Launching on Facebook in April 2011, Qatar Airways has achieved remarkable fan growth, especially in the past year, due to a wide variety of promotions including fan engagement, exclusive airfares, and the airline’s sponsorship of the world’s most popular football club, FC Barcelona.
 
Qatar Airways Fan Growth has exceeded 166% in six months and over 500% in 12 months.
 
Qatar Airways’ growth on Facebook has been a bi-product of its broad content initiatives, where its aim has been to bring unique glimpses into the airline’s expansion, operations, sponsorships, employees and culture.
 
Additionally, the airline has launched exclusive Facebook Fan Fares, enabling its fans to avail discounts on air travel.  Contests have also played a significant role in building the airline’s popularity on the social web. During the year, the airline has launched popular promotions such as: “To Maldives, With Love,” “Be a VIP at the FC Barcelona Asia Tour,” and most recently “Where’s the Panda?”
 
The airline has architected a strong social media presence across the social media landscape, using 14 outlets as a means of building relationships with its expanding customer base. As a result, it has gained tremendous insights into the attitudes and opinions of its customers toward the Qatar Airways brand and received many great stories & product suggestions from its large fan base.

Qatar Airways has seen rapid growth in just 16 years of operations, currently flying a modern fleet of 129 aircraft to 131 key business and leisure destinations worldwide.
 
Qatar Airways has so far launched eight destinations this year – Gassim (Saudi Arabia), Najaf (Iraq), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Chicago (USA), Salalah (Oman) and Sulaymaniyah (Iraq), Chengdu, China (September 3), and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (September 18).
Over the next few weeks and months, the network will expand with the addition of further destinations Taif, Saudi Arabia (2 October), Clark International Airport, Philippines (October 27) and Philadelphia, USA (2 April 2014).
