Saudi Arabia’s crown prince quietly snapped up what was then the world’s most expensive private home in 2015.The 23 000-square-foot Château Louis XIV near Versailles traded hands for about $300 million.

Reports detailed a moat-ringed estate with gold-leaf fountains, an underwater lounge, a cinema, and even a nightclub.
