A rare blood moon will be visible from Doha

If you’re looking for the best things to do in Doha that are (quite literally) out of this world, then this is one thing you shouldn’t miss.
Qatar will be witnessing a rare lunar eclipse. It occurs when the Earth aligns with the sun and the moon, temporarily blocking the sunlight from the moon. As a result, we’ll see what looks like a “blood moon” appearing in the sky.
It’s going to be visible from Qatar between Sunday September 7, wherever the skies are clear.
The eclipse progresses through several phases: penumbral, partial, total, back to partial, and finally penumbral again. The entire lunar eclipse lasts for a few hours, expected to be from 7.27pm to 10.57pm in Doha.
The optimal time to see the eclipse is when the moon is about 43° above the south-eastern horizon, which would be at 11.18pm.
Where to see the rare blood moon?
If you want to get a clearer look at the moon, you need to get away from the light pollution of the city.
There are plenty of places in the expansive Qatari desert for stargazing viewing. And if you’re feeling ambitious, make sure to take along a digital camera to get some stunning pictures for the feed.
Keep an eye closer to the date because the big events to help stargazers make the most of the total lunar eclipse are soon to be announced.
