A statement released by Tropic Air says that the company’s Air Operators Certificate was reinstated following an inquiry by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) into a humanitarian flight into Somalia last month. It was alleged that Tropic Air undertook this flight without the appropriate flight clearances.
“It has been confirmed that all aviation protocols were duly followed,” says Tropic Air’s statement.
The nature of the mission involved the successful recovery of two Spanish aid workers who had been held hostage for 21 months in Somalia, after their capture from a refugee camp in Dadaab, North Eastern Kenya, in October 2011.
Tropic Air specializes in air charters and tourist flights. The company made news in August 2012 when one of its helicopters rescued Ugandan soldiers from Mount Kenya after three Ugandan Mi-24 attack helicopters crashed into the mountain due to poor visibility.
