UAE warns against AI apps: Protect biometric data from exploitation

Users' biometric information may be compromised by artificial intelligence programs that turn personal photos into cartoon-like characters or digital avatars, according to a warning from the Abu Dhabi Department of Government Enablement.

The department emphasized the hidden dangers of submitting private facial photos to AI-powered platforms in a public awareness film that was uploaded to its official X account.  The video cautioned that once this biometric information is obtained, it may be used to fabricate accounts, commit fraud, or even produce deepfake films. "With a single shot, AI can learn every facial detail," the video said. With the growing popularity of AI-powered applications that transform personal photos into cartoon characters or digital avatars, many users are unknowingly exposing sensitive biometric data.

The department stressed that when users submit photos to AI editing tools, they are inadvertently sharing their unique biometric identity, making themselves vulnerable to misuse.
